CYBERTEC at PGConf.DE: Talks, Booth Buzz & PostgreSQL’s New Education Alliance

05.2025 / Category: / Tags: |

From insightful talks and customer meetings to the big launch of the Open Alliance for PostgreSQL Education (OAPE), we came back inspired, energised, and a little sleep-deprived (worth it).

Here’s everything you missed — or want to relive at CYBERTEC at PGConf.DE.

Arriving in Berlin: Business Before the Booth

We touched down in Berlin, just in time to get things rolling. Cornelia Biacsics (our CMO) and I kicked off PGConf.DE week with a long-overdue in-person meetup with our friends at Redgate.

As PostgreSQL continues to gain ground in enterprise IT, collaborations like these are key to strengthening the ecosystem.

Right after, we joined our long-time partners Readyset and X-Cellent (Metalstack) for a visit to one of our valued customers. There’s nothing quite like face-to-face conversations to build on what’s working and shape what’s next.

Dinner, Conversations & Community

What’s better than PostgreSQL talk during the day? PostgreSQL talk over dinner!

That evening, we hosted the CYBERTEC Dinner — a relaxed, informal evening with customers, partners, and our awesome team. Good food, great company, and plenty of laughs. A perfect way to kick off the event.

The Conference Begins: Booth Buzz & Lightning Talks

When PGConf.DE officially opened on Thursday, the CYBERTEC booth was right at the heart of the action. From deep-dive conversations to hallway chats, we were busy all day; with the kind of buzz you only get at community-driven events like this.

We also had the pleasure of delivering three impactful talks:

Bernd Helmle: Make btree_gist Faster

Our Senior Database Engineer shared tips on speeding up btree_gist,a favorite topic for PostgreSQL power users.

Julian Markwort: MAKE DB FAST AGAIN – Taking Trains on Time to a PG Conference

Julian’s lightning talk was pure fun, packed with travel misadventures and PostgreSQL puns. Yes, it got laughs.

Hans-Jürgen Schönig: PostgreSQL as Open Source

CYBERTEC’s founder and CEO delivered a talk straight from decades of PostgreSQL experience — on open source, the power of community, and the reality of PostgreSQL in enterprise.

Spotlight: Launching the Open Alliance for PostgreSQL Education

We made a big announcement at PGConf.DE.

Together with Proventa and Data Egret, we officially launched the Open Alliance for PostgreSQL Education (OAPE).

The goal?
To create an independent, community-driven PostgreSQL certification — a gold standard for professionals and companies alike.

No vendor lock-ins. No gatekeeping. Just the community coming together to raise the bar for PostgreSQL education through certification programs.

What’s Next?

We’re back from Berlin, tired but inspired. A huge thank you to everyone who came by the booth, joined a talk, or clinked glasses at the dinner.

Until next time, Berlin.
